01/06/09 – Australian PC User Australian Net Guide January 2006 WWW.NETGUIDE.COM.AU Buyers’ Guide Reviews DualSIM Mobile Phone RRP $399 WEB www.dualsim.com.au The DualSIM’s selling point really is all in its name. It’s a slider-style mobile phone with the particular quirk that you can pop two SIM cards from any provider into it, and use them interchangeably as needed. PROS As a basic phone, it’s workable enough, and the advantages of being able to benefit from better rates between SIMs, or use one work and one home SIM, are obvious. CONS Only GSM is supported – so no 3G networking here – and it also lacks Wi-Fi Or GPS, although that’s understandable considering the price point. The touchscreen’s fiver-way selector was quiet hard to navigate with during our testing and, surprisingly for a GSM-only phone, battery life was quite poor. DualSIM’s onto a great idea here, but unfortunately this isn’t a great phone.

01/06/09 – Australian Net Guide – Buyers’ Guide (Reviews) AUSTRALIAN PC USER Australia’s Top-Selling Technology Magazine Reviews in this issue June 2009 After Hours > Cool & new DUALSIM SLIDER PRICE $399 / CONTACT DUALSIM / PHONE (02) 9756 6224 WEB www.dualsim.com.au The DualSim’s concept is all in the name: it’s a slider-type GSM phone with provision for two SIM cards, whether you need one for work and personal use, or just to take advantage of different mobile coverage zones or payment rates. It’s a solid idea that saves a lot of pocket space if you do need two mobile numbers. However, the physical phone hardware feels a little under-baked. Menu selection in via a haptic touchpad embedded on the front, which works a little worse than a real selection dial would, and the buttons to the side of it are also a touch on the flimsy side. Given that you’ve got the select which SIM to use for each call, this can lead to a bit of mis-pressing. Its GSM-only nature means it’s not suitable for data work, so Wi-Fi is also notable absent. For this reason, we were surprised when it conked out on us after around a day and half of light usage. Sure, it’s got two GSM antennas to run, but this does indicate that a larger-capacity battery might have been a better idea. Alex Kidman PC User says: The DUALSIM concept is solid, but this phone needs more work.

01/05/09 – APC Magazine – Downtime Review Downtime High-Performance Playtime Downtime Review DualSim Phone The first locally distributed mobile phone that allows users to operate two sim cards in the once device handy! It’s estimated that over five million of us switched-on Australians have more than one SIM card, which we either swap in and out of one phone or go through the inconvenience of carrying around two active phones. There are 5’000 searches on Google per day for Australia looking for dual-sim phones, which have only been available previously for manufacturers overseas. With a dual-sim mobile phone, you can now separate personal and work lines in the one handset, or if you’re a regular international traveller, you can keep your Australian SIM in your phone and add a local pre-paid SIM card to your handset to avoid paying the insanely expensive roaming charges on your Aussie connection. Another advantage of the two SIMs option is the ability to save money by taking advantage of the various pre-paid deals offered by the telcos. With two sim cards you can mix-and-match deal by having Telstra’s on-cent text option paired with Vodafone’s ‘night talker’, where you get bonus free calls 8pm to 8am to any network or landline. The first phone on the market, the DualSim Slider (pictured) comes with a list of features that have become a necessity in mobile communications: Bluetooth, a two-megapixel camera, touch-pad controls and SD Card support, as well as a built-in MP3/MP4 player and an FM radio. All up, the DualSim Slider is a worthy replacement for all midrange phones. A good handset paired with a novel concept that consumers have been screaming out for should see the DualSim become a big success. (Providing not too much competition enters it market.) 18/03/09 - The Courier-Mail CM2 Technology - Could've Saved Warnie

18/03/09- The Courier-Mail CM2 Technology – Could’ve Saved Warnie 24 Technology Could’ve Saved Warnie Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson If the philandering-ear Shane Warne had known about double-SIM phones he might not have landed in so much trouble. He could have beamed raunchy SMS messages to his harem from one number while phoning his wife from another, all while using the one phone. It’s little wonder Warnie didn’t have the technology to do this, though. Double-SIM phones, or phones that use two SIM cards and two phone numbers at once, are in short supply. Phone operators tend to avoid spruiking devices that will use a rival’s network as well as their own. But a company named Dualsim is changing that by launching it’s own double-number phone in Australia. The Dualsim Slider looks like a regular phone on its face, with only the round, touch sensitive navigation window attracting attention. Look closer, however, and you will spot two numbered call buttons on its front. This is a truly handy hardware addition that makes using two phone numbers easy. Key in a number you wish to dial and you can choose which provider to use by hitting the corresponding call button: 1 or 2. It’s so simple that there’s very little chance you’ll call someone from the wrong number. Sending an SMS is similarly simple, though you have to choose SIM1 or SIM2 from the on screen menu. Workers who typically carry two phone – one for work and the other for pleasure – should appreciate this ease of use, as should canny callers who want to make the best of operator’s special deals. The Dualsim Slider also features Bluetooth, an MP3 and MP4 player, space for a MicroSD card, and a competent 2 megapixel camera with image options, though it does snap photos a second after the shutter noise sounds. But while using the Dualsim Slider could make your life easier, it could force you to make compromises. Unfortunately, this phone is not designed to handle your email or view the web. You can view websites via WAP, but downloads could be painfully slow as this phone will not connect to 3G or to wi-fi hotspots. Its colour display is also basic, its adaptive touch window is prone to mis-hits and is best used with a fingernail or pen, and its feature list makes several omissions, including predictive text. Its battery also runs down quickly for a 2G phone because it connects to two phone networks. Those with a genuine need to juggle two phone numbers shouldn’t mind these compromises, as the Dualsim Slider delivers on its main aim. Those wanting more could wait for Samsung’s double-SIM offering later this year.

11/03/09 - The Daily Telegraph Connect - SIM Support for Dual Personalities

11/03/09 – The Daily Telegraph Connect – SIM Support for Dual Personalities Connect Tv Sim Support for dual personalities Sometimes one mobile sim card is not enough, with millions of Australians juggling two or more on the same handset. To switch between them they have to remove the back cover and the battery, take out one sim, insert another, replace the battery and back cover, then turn it on again. That’s a lot of work and if you are someone who needs multiple sims, chances are time isn’t something you have in bucket loads. If they can afford it, others simply carry around two mobiles and hope they don’t ring at the same time. But a new mobile called DualSim, the first of tis kind in Australia, can run two sim cards simultaneously. Australia is one of the few countries in the world where there are more active accounts than there are people. The handset manufacturer reports up to five million customers with multiple mobile accounts. The handset can be purchased outright for $399, and accepts sim cards from any of the Australian operators. Users can set different ring tones to distinguish between the sim cards as well as view whether the call is coming through Sim 1 or Sim 2 on the display. The DualSim is a slider with a 6.1cm (2.4 inch) colour screen and 2 megapixel camera. Below the screen is a circular display that can be used as a five-way navigation key or as standby mode shortcut to access messages, media files, the mobile or the included 2GB microSD card’s memory and address book. We found this secondary screen frustrating as the touch-sensitive interface wasn’t always accurate and activated menus we didn’t want. We used the device with an Optus and a Vodafone sim card with the names of both operators showing on the screen. When a call comes in the device specifies which sim card it is directed to. This is useful for people who would use this device to manage a work and private sim card. The DualSim can also be used for small businesses who want to set up two phone lines and manage them from a single mobile device instead of a landline. There are also benefits for users in remote areas where they can only connect using Telstra. Then, when they travel to more populated areas with other networks available, they will be able to use another operator’s sim to maybe make cheaper calls. Stephen Fenech Dualsim.com.au

23/02/09 - DUALSIMTM SLIDER Mobile Launch

DUALSIMTM MOBILE PHONES UNLOCK TELCO CONTROL OVER CUSTOMERS

A new force in mobile phones launches onto the Australian market in March 2009 with the aim of putting the control of mobile handsets back in the hands of Australians.

DUALSIMTM mobile phones are built with one important feature - the ability to have and manage two SIM cards in one mobile handset for convenience, control and savings.

Over 5 million Australians have 2 SIM cards (which they switch in and out of one phone) or have two active phones. There are 5000 searches on Google per day from Australia looking for dual sim phones, available from manufacturers overseas, but until now not available in Australia due to the power the telcos have over retailing.

With a DUALSIMTM mobile phone, now you can separate personal and work lines in the one handset, or keep your Australian SIM in your phone when travelling overseas and add a local pre-paid SIM card to your handset to make cheap local calls from that country.

Or perhaps you are looking to save money by taking advantage of the various pre-paid deals offered by the telcos like Telstra’s 1 cent texting deal combined with Vodafone’s “night talker” where you get bonus free calls 8pm to 8am to any network or landline.

With a DUALSIMTM mobile phone, you can then switch from one pre-paid plan to another to take advantage of discount offers like Vodafone’s current 10% off a recharge offer.

DUALSIMTM phones are approved for use in Australia and unlike some counterfeit imports trickling in to meet previous demand in Australia, DUALSIMTM has its own IMEI.

DUALSIMTM phones are manufactured on the same factory lines as some of the world’s leading mobile phone brands and carry a full 12 month manufacturer’s warranty.

The first mobile phone in the DUALSIMTM range is the DUALSIMTM SLIDER for AU$399 SRP
